I have not seen an identical problem, using Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit Gnome
Trash Can is functioning normally /except/ that it /always/ shows empty even if items are in it.
I've tried deleting the trash folder entirely and changing icons. I've removed it from the desk top and put it back. Rebooted and even tried deleting all "trash" folders on external drives.
I can find no configuration files for "trash"
Does anyone know how I can restore the original default?
