View Full Version : [SOLVED] Ubuntu 14.10 doesn't load

I have a dual install on my Dell laptop: Ubuntu and Windows XP. I hardly ever come over here on the Windows side, but I upgraded from 14.04 to 14.10 two days ago, and I'm having trouble booting Ubuntu since then.

It HAS booted at least two times and once it's up it runs fine.

When it doesn't boot, I notice:
* It just stays on the first Grub2 menu forever unless I choose Ubuntu.
* On the purple "Ubuntu" screen while it's trying to load, the font is small and in a corner of the screen.
* It doesn't get farther than that, the last 3 or 4 times I've tried.

I'm new to Ubuntu (since May of this year), and don't know what steps I should take now . . .

I'm surprised that zero people responded to this thread. I guess I'll go back to posting in the "New to Ubuntu" forum, where folks are so helpful :)

But the problem resolved itself. I left Ubuntu alone and it eventually booted. I realized that it had shut down because it ran out of power the last time, so that's probably why it took so long to boot the next time.

Still, 14.10 takes WAY longer to boot than 14.04 ever did. But everything's working fine once it's up.
