It's been a good while since I last posted a screenshot here. I've gone through quite a number of wallpapers in the last year, but I haven't posted anything new since the beginning of summer. As usual, I make almost all of my wallpapers myself. So here are my current screens:

Full-size screenshots here:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/viperdvman/Screenshots/screenshotArch6a.jpg~original

I still run Arch Linux as my primary Linux, though I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 as my secondary. I've also stuck with KDE since I first made Arch my primary desktop, though LXqt is starting to tempt me. KDE does everything very well for me, and I can make it look and act like a dream :D In addition to wallpapers, I also changed up the themes, going for more of a blend of Mac OS X and Chrome OS (with the invisible top bar and Docky backgrounds). However, I still run my prefered Mac OS X style desktop, complete with dock, global app menu, and app name next to the menu. Bottom line: same interface, different themes :)

Computer: Desktop
Distro: Arch Linux
Desktop Environment: KDE Plasma 4.14.1
Plasma Theme: Invisible (from KDE-Look)
Window Theme: Oxygen Transparent (from AUR)
Color Scheme: Obsidian Dark Yellow (modified from Obsidian Coast)
Left Wallpaper: custom-made RWBY "Weiss Schnee collage" (16:9 version)
Right Wallpaper: custom-made RWBY "Yang Xiao Long collage" (16:10 version)
Icons: Oxygencolors v6.3 (Yellow Glass color)
Dock: Docky ... features include: Anchor logo removed using gconf, Custom launchers for Homerun Launcher, Plasma Activities, and Dolphin... all with custom icons, all pre-made before dropping into Docky
Docky Theme: Transparent
Special Features: Dual displays, Homerun Launcher, Global Menu

I'm a minimalist! The top part of the shot is the attached monitor with an aerial pic of my home city and surrounding Mt Lofty Ranges (the smoke is a small 'burn off'. The bottom pic is the laptop the monitor is connected to and a closer shot of the Flinder's Ranges, also in my home state, South Australia.

I use keyboard shortcuts for just about everything. The second pic has my rather minimal taskbar. I have no bottom one.

Enjoy. Xfce4 is extremely customisable. I use a minimal install with xfce4 and only apps I need/want. No fat, no bloat. Extremely fast with an i3 and 4Gb RAM.

I guess I can cross-post from the November desktop thread, since I haven't changed anything.

257916

I end up killing the second panel in favor of cairo-dock.

I've felt at home with XFCE since ubuntu-desktop swapped Gnome 2 in favor of Unity.
I didn't care for Gnome 3. But, XFCE was close enough to the way the old Gnome 2 worked for me to feel at home.

I've got a similar XUbuntu 14.04 setup on a laptop with no screenshot to show.
The only exceptions being the wallpaper and a newer version of XFCE.

Xfce4 is extremely customisable. Oooooh yeahhh ! So true. :D

A split personality DE with both xfdesktop and Nautilus desktop running off a xfce4 session in Debian Wheezy.

Both Desktops are showing their desktop properties dialogs. Both Nautilus and Thunar are open with their "about" option showing.

The blue xfdesktop is shifted across by half to expose the nautilus desktop below by an easystroke gesture and a bit of scripting.

I use "wmctrl" in scripts in my home folder to manipulate both the desktops.
A toggle switch script is used either from a panel launcher or an easystroke gesture to switch between desktops, for anyone interested in trying 2 desktops at once the next script will switch between xfdesktop and nautilus desktop if installed. You need both "wmctrl" and "xwininfo" installed to use it.

#!/bin/sh
#
#
#

TOGGLE=$HOME/.toggle0

if [ ! -e $TOGGLE ]; then
touch $TOGGLE
wmctrl -ia $(xwininfo -tree -root -all | egrep '"Desktop":' | egrep 'xfdesktop' | sed -e 's/^ *//' | cut -d\ -f1);
else
rm $TOGGLE
wmctrl -ia $(xwininfo -tree -root -all | egrep '("desktop_window" "Nautilus")' | sed -e 's/^ *//' | cut -d\ -f1);
fi

exit 0I like to have the xfdesktop available, love that context menu set up with the applications there as well, then I also love nautilus scripts, so running both works well for me. The xfce4 panels are the clincher though in my decision making, I love how I can access nearly everything I ever use from the nested launchers around the screen edges. You'll notice most of the icons on the three panels have an expansion arrow beside them ;).

else

I know this is the wrong place to take this further, but could you please start a new thread to explain how a toggle script works generically? In other words, could you please explain...

Simply the script both creates and removes the hidden file ~/.toggle# in the home folder while looking to see if the file exists first ( if [ ! -e $TOGGLE ]; then ); if it doesn't exist it creates it or if it does exist it deletes it, thus creating the toggle functionality between the two states and hence the 2 commands inserted in either of the 2 positions. I sent a PM with a bit more info and links, cheers vasa1.

I like the new version of Cinnamon so much that I am going to stay with it! The ability is easily change themes really makes this nice. This is some of the best work I have seen in a long time. :D
