Hi all,

I'm thinking about adding the PPA, and upgrading to Unity 8. Are there any major problems anyone is having on 14.04LTS right now? Additionally, if I do decide to install the newer version, will it be a real pain to downgrade to Unity 7 if I change my mind?

I don't want to have too much of a hassle should I decide to do that.

Thanks!

Robert

What ppa?
You can install unity8 following this

edit: I realize in hindsight that my initial question might come off as cynical, or sarcastic, but I'm sincere in wanting to know which ppa you are referring to.

No worries. I guess I misunderstood what I was looking at earlier. It appears to be a PPA for dependencies (unless I'm not reading that correctly too).

You will get a login screen option. The usual Ubuntu login option will remain but the last used session will become the default session. I tried unity8-desktop-session-mir (it is in the software centre) on 14.10 the other day, and if I remember correctly I got a black screen after logging in. You might get better results.

Regards.

Per this (http://mhall119.com/2014/10/unity-8-desktop/) currently you need to manually create a password to log in to the live session of the Unity 8 desktop.

However, I tried yesterday's 15.04 Unity 8 daily and the live session, via the 'try' option, worked without a password, as usual. What I got was the phone interface. That was my first look at Unity 8, so maybe that's all that's there at the moment.

Really? For some reason I thought there was more to it right now. GRRRR! ;)
