Well, Xine beats Mplayer in DVD playback, it even supports menus :P
So load up Totem/Kaffeine/Some-other-player with the Xine playback engine, and start to play.

I'll second vote for Xine, till I found that I watched DVDs in windows (PowerDVD). Xine rescued me!

I remember wasting 5 days of my life trying to play dvds under windows. Every program I got was a trial version, shareware version, spyware version, or non functional version.

Then I got VLC. Nuff said..

I've always used totem-xine, tried mplayer but it didn't measure up for DVD's. Totem-gstreamer should be avoided, it doesn't work with encrypted DVD's.

Yup..gstreamer doesn't work for anything much, imho..I wish we could stick with xine and be done with it.

used to have ogle but now I wouldn't take it anymore because it is limited to DVD-Playback.

I recomend kaffeine (xine) or in gnome totem (xine)

VLC is good but I use it only in Windows because I like kaffeine

Kaffeine plus xine works well in kubuntu so I would add another recomendation for trying xine plus totem (assuming you are using gnome)
