It seems that indicator-synapse (http://www.webupd8.org/2013/06/synapse-indicator-new-search.html) doesn't want to play nice with some panels (see here (http://askubuntu.com/questions/357090/indicator-synapse-in-tint2) and here (http://askubuntu.com/questions/431009/how-to-run-indicator-synapse-in-lubuntu)). Has anyone managed to get it to show up?

I think its going to be tough getting an answer to this. I have openbox installs, but with gnome-panel. So no help there.
I think the place to start would be install it and see if you can pull it up using the terminal.
You probably already know this, but ..

Edit
After you get it installed, look in /usr/share/applications. May have created a gnome launcher there.
