Hi All, this is my very first attempt at installing Ubuntu and Linux. And yes, right off the bat, I've hit a wall. Tried installing Ubunyu 14 (64 and 32bits), each appeared to be thinking (only the Ubuntu title was showing), then I got a blank white-grey screen. Nothing else. I'm now running a DVD called Darik's Boot ands Nuke 2.2.8 to wipe clean the XP hard drive so I can start from scratch. I'll obviously reload the Motherboard driver etc but any other assistance would be very welcome. This is a fist time road for me installing a PC from scratch and then Ubuntu. I don't know the hardware specs inside the PC either. I'll need to run some sort of command line to determine the inner specs. Not sure how to do that. Cheers all.

If this computer had xp installed it could be ten or more years old. Check the link below for minmum hardware requirements to run Ubuntu 14.04. The second link below shows you how to get information on your computer hardware from the Ubuntu installation media. Are you sure your hardware is 64bit? Use the info at the third link below to find out how to check.
