I'm running Ubuntu 14.10 and use Google Chrome...my homepage is yahoo and since i have a yahoo account, i always log into it...this evening, when i refreshed the paged, the yahoo home page i was always familiar with changed radically...it's very strange looking...looks like something that microsoft might design (has a very windows 8 look to it)...I was wondering if anyone else is getting it too?

Now, when i open Firefox...and i am signed into yahoo on there also, so far, i am still getting the old yahoo home page design...
So, please check on Chrome (or Chromium i guess) and if you have a yahoo account, be sure to sign in to it on the page...So you can see what i am seeing, here is a screenshot of it...

I guess they must be gradually phasing it in on various systems (linux, mac, windows) and browsers (Chrome, Chromium Firefox and Internet Explorer, etc)...
My friend thought maybe i got hijacked...lol...so thanks for confirming that i am not the only one ;)

Hope others will check it out and post here about it...also, what do you all think about the way it looks?
To me, it's a bit weird and strange...

It looks like the Microsoft Live Tile interface. Lots of stuff going on. It's a cross between a carnival and a casino. Accessibility for attention deficit disorder. Ooh Shiny.

@tgalati4: Yes...that's what it reminds me of (the microsoft windows 8 tile interface)...and so far, doesn't seem to have any way of changing it's looks in any fashion...I've always liked having yahoo for home page but this is tempting me to try to find a nice alternative (if there are any out there...lol)...

Looks as if you can customize it much like the Windows 8 tiles, too

The my yahoo page can be customized easily but not the main yahoo page, which is what you are seeing above in my screenshot...that (my yahoo page) is what they are referring to in your linked page...

It's strange how one only gets it on google chrome and specifically on linux right now...my only guess would be they are phasing it in gradually to the different systems and browsers...And since so far it's only appearing on Google Chrome (linux version) i guess that is why we don't see anything about it on the web (especially complaints...lol)...

Finally found an article about this...see link:

Apparently (based on the article) this preview of the new design of yahoo homepage is also being seen on Mac's Safari browser as well...as i said, sure seems like they are phasing it in on each browser/operating system...one by one...

They both use the Gecko page renderer, so perhaps there is a User Agent check that spews the new layout when using those browsers. I bet if you use Firefox and change the User Agent to Chrome, then you will get the new layout.

At least they are doing a roll-out. Gateway Computers (bought out by Acer in 2007) had a customizable home page that many folks liked and then it just disappeared--without notice.

And you could change your user agent in Chrome so you get the old page design.
