I'm presenting my problem as detailed as possible, and I'd appreciate it a million if you bear with me throughout the entire story. :)
So I wanted to install Ubuntu alongside my Windows 7. I downloaded it, put it on a flash drive and began with the installation. I didn't create a separate partition just for the Ubuntu (I didn't think it was necessary). I have 2 hard drives, 1TB each. On the first one I have two partitions (C and D), and on the second one I have just one (E). Anyways, when I had to install Ubuntu I had to create 4 logical partitions. And I did so. One for the boot (500mb), one for swap (8GB), one for home (15GB) and a general one (\) (18GB). *this might not be the exact values, but I don't think it matters much at this point* (N.B. At first, Ubuntu didn't detect any hard drives and partitions, and I had to create a "New Partition Table". After that, some free space appeared (about 1 TB). Anyways, I couldn't see the different partitions where I've installed my Windows 7.) So I decided to proceed with the installation, but I never got to a loading screen of actually installing any software. I thought it was terminated for some reason. I decided to try again, but this time creating a separate partition only for the Linux. So I restarted my computer in order to create a new partition, but it simply froze at "Loading Operation System..." as if there was no OS at all installed on the HDD. I tried a lot of stuff in my BIOS, starting at safe mode and whatnot, but it didn't fix the issue. I even tried to install Ubuntu again, but I only got some errors when booting from the flash drive. Anyways, I came to the conclusion that the only way to fix this is to reinstall my Windows. So I inserted the Windows installation DVD, started the installation, and got to the point of choosing where to install Windows. So here is the biggest bummer! There is a list of a total of 10 different partitions (Disk 0 Partition from 1 to 4 + some unallocated space; and Disk 1 Partition from 1 to 4 + some unallocated space). The two disks are absolutely identical, meaning Disk 0 Partition 1 is the same size as Disk 1 Partition 1, and so on... I also noticed that each of these four partitions is about the size of each of the four partitions I created during Ubuntu installation (one is about 500MB, one is 7.5GB, one is 15, and one is 18).
Bottom line, I have NO IDEA how that happened, since there was no installation process and no loading time, which I guess is required for the creation of new partitions. Plus, why the F**K do I have only two identical disks, and I cannot see C, D and E partitions??? Have I lost all of my information just like that? How do I fix this ****?? I simply want to reinstall my Windows and run Ubuntu under a Virtual Box, I don't mind. However, I'm afraid that whatever I contemplate at this point, would be beyond my knowledge and therefore threatening my data (if its not entirely lost already...). I have to fix my PC as soon as possible, and I'd really appreciate any help on your side! :) Thanks a lot in advance! :)
