It doesnt have to be one big program like MS office or OpenOffice, it can be bits and pieces to form one mighty office set.
I use
Abiword
Gnumeric
OpenOffice Database (though I dont really use databases anymore)
OpenOffice presentation (I cant really find any other powerpoint type programs)

edit: oh I forgot to mention inkscape and scribus.

I just use OpenOffice Writer for writing school papers and OpenOffice Draw for making birthday/holiday cards.

Abiword
Gedit
Mousepad

I try to avoid Openoffice as much as I can because it takes so long to load.

OpenOffice.org on my desktops, Abiword and Gnumeric on my laptop.

I use Gedit for a gui text editor and nano for terminal.
I use Gnome Office apps for quick and dirty word processing and spreadsheets. Open Office for more sophisticated business stuff.

Does GnuCash count as an office app?

I use OOo (grudgingly, it must be said) if I need compatibility with MS formats, otherwise, Abiword, Gnumeric, Scribus, and the GIMP ably meet my (quite modest) requirements.

I use KWord for reading those pesky .doc files that clients like to e-mail me. I don't generally have much use for office-type stuff outside of that.

abiword for simple word processing (and saving to .doc)
and
oo.o for larger projects.
