Hello every fellow-Ubunter:)
So there is a new release due in November this year.
The next UOS will take place between the 12th and 14th November.
Now I have a very simple question: will it be possible to burn an iso file to a CD-rom or is the next version even bulkier than 14.04 LTS?
The reason I ask is that I am not really sure I can load it from a memory stick (lack of self-confidence???)

Thanks in advance for every piece of information.

Chris.

No - it won't be possible to burn it to a CD - it hasn't been for a long time. You couldn't have burnt 14.04 to a CD either.

Grab a usb stick (4GB+) and use unetbootin (http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/UNetbootin) to "burn" the iso on the stick.

Wow! Thanks a lot to both of you Elfy and Thumpxr :D_ That was quick!
Quite correct Elfy, 14.04 cannot be burnt to a CD. I think it was quite a few weeks ago that I upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04. Think I am going to download UNetbootin just now.... as a preliminary step_ before the next release rolls in ;)

Confused now

Just WHAT Ubuntu version is due for nov 12th or 14th ?

The talk about Unetbootin is confusing. Wouldn't a DVD image still be possible to produce/use?

No version for Ubuntu is due on those dates. They are for an on-line meeting http://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/planning-the-next-ubuntu-online-summit/1805

Yes, you can still use a DVD if you wish.

Ubuntu 14.10 is due on October 23rd:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UtopicUnicorn/ReleaseSchedule

But it's important to remember that the interim releases are only supported for 9 months whereas the LTS releases (eg; 12.04, 14.04, 16.04) are supported for 5 years:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

And, when considering length of support, you should also be mindful of LTS HWE:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack

Many users will want to use the archived **.01 (first point release) images to avoid HWE EOL:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/1204_HWE_EOL

Thank you Westie! Phew! I am really relieved to know that there is no new release due in November. Yet this is what the message in red seems to say: The next UOS will take place between the 12th and 14th November.

Chris.

This was the post that confused me. Thanks for clarifying.
