I am attempting to install ubuntu on a HP Compaq R3000. It came preloaded with windows xp. I wanted to start with a fresh install. Using gpart I repartitioned my hdd. I failed to manage the flag in the repartition and have not been able to access my hdd, format it, or install to it since. I thought I would try Ubuntu, because I read somewhere that it might solve my access/boot-up problem. It seemed to be working well until it came to "configuring bcmwl-kernel-source (i386)". Then it froze-up. I have attached a few screen shots from when it has frozen during Ubuntu installation and when trying to fix hdd with gpart. When I start the computer from the hdd it goes to load GRUB and then to GRUB recovery. But there is no GRUB to recovery. It seems everything has been wiped clean. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would install Lubuntu and not Ubuntu on such old hardware. More info in the link in my signature.

Do you want to install a dual boot or running only (L)ubuntu?
