You yourself can help test 15.04.

Testing will start after 14.10 is released. You can see the schedule here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DraftReleaseSchedule
There will also be two UDS online during that time, you might consider participating if you like extra info.

You can find starting instructions on beginning testing here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam#Getting_Involved
Once you join a mailing list, you can get more info.

Unless you are very knowledgeable with linux in general and, in particular, have very good terminal recovery skills you should run alpha or beta ubuntu versions in a VM, if at all. It may work fine when you install but it's virtually certain that at some point an update will break it.

I know a couple of guys who have been unix/linux maintainers for 20 years and they won't touch pre release versions with a 10 foot pole unless they absolutely have to.

Not saying you shouldn't do it but as your primary OS? Not unless you have serious skills.

Or run it on a spare machine. However as development progresses towards release time it is much more reliable.

Sam-c, please ignore the negative remarks in post 3. We appreciate that you are willing to test a new release and of course you know already that no valuable data should be stored in a test installation.

The development forum (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=427) is the place to look. You don't have to wait for 15.04, 14.10 can also use an extra pair of eyes.

Each version of Ubuntu has a development period of 26 weeks. The development period of 15.04 will start the week after 14.10 is officially released. I intend to switch to the 15.04 development version during the first week of its development. The code at that stage will still be very, very much the 14.10 code. We do daily updates and over time the 14.10 code will change into the 15.04 code. So, do not be surprised if at first the labels still say 14.10, That is normal.

Within a couple of weeks there will be daily ISO images on the QA testing tracker site for download and installation. If you are interested you can ask for directions at the end of October or the beginning of November in the Ubuntu Development Version section of this forum and hang out there.

Regards.
