In Ubuntu 14.04 if you click on the icon of the programm, which is opened in couple of windows, by the first click opens the last window, which was in focuse, and by the second click opens the windows spread of this programm. So how can i open the windows spread by the first click? This is not big deal, but it isn't comfortable without this function.

Sorry but I am not sure what your question is about, can you give a more detailed example of the problem.
Is this something to do with multi-window applications, like earlier versions of gimp?

That's the way it is designed. A sorta workaround is do a quick double click on the icon which will open spread.

Use super+W
To see other keyboard short cuts hold down the Super key and an overlay will appear. Known by some as the windows key.

Another option you may not be aware of is, multiple windows
will show in the right click quicklist menu.
Also mouse scrolling on an icon with multiple windows will cycle through the multiple windows.
