hi, i wonder if anyone can help me. I've just upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04 yesterday via the upgrade button at the top of the update page.
During installation i had the terminal open to see what was going on, i noticed lots of things saying error and warning. while 14.04 is now up and running there seems to be a few issues ie. a lot of flash stuff not playing and thunderbird not working as it did before (i cant even log in to my email provider).
I looked for the flash plugin in the software center and it isnt there, you tube for instance sometimes plays videos but when they do play they are all choppy even though i have cable bband, so its not a speed issue. Also is there not a 64bit flavour of 14.04? i have a 64bit machine but am running the 32bit version. I'm not really a terminal person and managed to do everything via the gui with12.04 and it all worked great , but there seems to be a few things not working right with 14.04 and i dont really know what to do to fix it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. oops maybe i should say iv got amd x64 4400mhz, 2gb ram (although ubuntu says its only 1.7gb) and i dual boot with win vista, although i never use vista as it makes my pc sound like a helicopter thats why i use ubuntu and my pc runs silent

Suggest clean install of 64 bit Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop) as upgrading from 32 bit will pose inumerable hurdles. Remember to back up your data first. Instructions are fairly straightforward http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/install-ubuntu-desktop although you need to know if your BIOS is legacy or UEFI before proceeding

In my experience upgrades often cause more problems than one cares to take the time to solve. Back up important items and do a clean install. If you are too messed up it may be best to wipe the drive first.
