I am unable to upgrade from ubuntu 10.04 using the alternate CD to Ubuntu 12.04.5 no matter what.

error: Failed to fetch cdrom:[Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS _Precise Pangolin_ - Release i386 (20140807)]/pool/main/t/talloc/libtalloc2_2.0.7-3_i386.deb Hash Sum mismatch
etc.

I have checked the MD5, SHA1, SHA256 sums, GPG Signature is good. I have downloaded the .iso through bittorrent, wget and firefox multiple times and tried many mount locations. However, every single time the "Hash Sum mismatch" error occurs.

Is there any way to upgrade with a hash sum mismatch or is there another upgrade path (aside from a clean install) to 12.04.5 or ultimately to 14.04?

Welcome. Just a guess, but are you trying to upgrade a 64bit install with a 32bit alternate install disk? I wasn't aware 12.04 had an alternate install ISO. They have been phased out. Could you provide a link to the ISO you are downloading, please?
