Dear Ubuntu people,

I am trying to simply install Ubuntu 12.04 on a HP laptop:

HP pavillion DV6000

I downloaded the iso image 12.04 for 386 architecture and saved the image on an external hardrive which is attached to the laptop through a USB cable.

Returned into the BIOS setting and put the setting that the system should boot up from a USB device.

After restart the screen says:

Operating system not found and a blinking cursor.

How to proceed ?

I am stuck.

Simply copying the ISO to a hard drive does not create bootable install media. You need to create a bootable thumbdrive or burn a bootable CD.

Here are a couple of methods to try:

http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
