So my first post and I have no idea where to really post this thread so I apologize in advance.
I'm looking to switch to Linux and also looking to replace my aging ASUS laptop. So I'm wondering what your thoughts are on the System76 laptops (I'm looking at between the 15.6" Gazelle Professional and the 17.3" Kude Professional.)

I've had desktop replacement gaming laptops before and never used them for gaming ever it seems but I do want in my new replacement laptop:
-Linux (always wanted to use it and switch from windows to it)
-A laptop where I can lay on the couch and use it for longer than 30 mins to a hour (something on the lines of at least 4 hours)
-The laptop wont heat up like crazy
I also can not find any solid benchmarks or information regarding the performance with the Intel HD Graphics 4600 chip and Ubuntu 14.04.1
-Most likely not to play any games I'd most likely have steam installed... just cause... but the ability to run games like half-life 2 and source or indie games or minecraft (stock)
-XBMC with 1080p playback of anime and movies
-Can no find no info if the 4600 can do HDMI 5.1 audio out
-Also I watch a lot of anime rather curious if things like hi10p are available for linux now and if that chip can run that kind of content.

I'd also like to hear people's thoughts upon those two model of laptops. Largely I want something that can do 1080p content and has a long battery for sitting on the sofa and doing web surfing while watching TV.

Thank you.

This may not directly address your questions, but if I may I would like to make a suggestion:

Try out Ubuntu Linux before you spend your money on a notebook with Ubuntu or any Linux preinstalled on it as the only Operating System:

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/try-ubuntu-before-you-install

You should be able to run Ubuntu from your present computer by booting from a USB external hard drive or flash drive or a DVD to get an idea of it before you spend your money. Ubuntu and Linux have a different philosophy towards computers than Windows and MacOS, it takes a little while to get used to it. Gaming on Linux in general is improving rapidly, but for casual gamers Windows seems to still offer better hardware support at present (YMMV).

I've used Ubuntu before but not for a long period of time. Most times my current ASUS laptop and my desktop tend to be rather finicky with running it, so I rather knock out two stones at once. Get a new laptop to replace my aging ASUS gaming laptop that is over like 5 years old and get a machine that runs linux well. Thing is I don't want to get a desktop replacement laptop cause I rarely ever use them for gaming it seems with my desktop running windows 7 and the battery life on them are garbage.

But for performance wise I'm curious from people that have a system 76 laptop or that intel chip set, I can only find performance benchmarks under ubuntu 13.04, 13.10 but not the current version 14.04.1 (or with the current drivers).
