Hello,

I installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and run PowerPoint under Wine. Everything works pretty fine. What does not work is to get Hyperlinks opened by Firefox. Links call Wine Internet Explorer in an older Version, so https does not work.
I tried hard to get this challenge solved, but did not succeed yet. I hope someone can give me support.
(I need to use PowerPoint, because I have to work with files, friends and clients send to me. So Ooo is no alternative.)

Thanks in advance and regards,
will

Powerpoint doesn't work well under Wine. The WineHQ page link has some information, but with the Silver ratings, that's poor performance and I would not expect it to do what you want: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=13

The problem is not powerpoint itself. it roots in calling wine internet explorer to execute URLs. That Wine internet explorer is an older one, not executing https urls. May be that there is no way to call firefox, I hope there is a chance to update that IE or to bridge to firefox ubuntu version.

Sorry, but as far as I know, there is no way to update the IE that works with Wine. The latest version I've seen working is version 8, and in the MS World, it's up to version 11 now.

A work around is to create a MS Onedrive account and use basic MSO applications for free however you would have to work online . IE8 is not secure and lacks many features in more up to date browsers. I found this also.
