terminal emulator not starting after upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04

Hello,

I recently upgraded from a custom version of 12.04 to std. 14.04, and I've found that when I try start the terminal emulator, I get a brief flash of a terminal window on the desktop and then it disappears, the process exists briefly on the task manager and then disappears. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

I the terminal process is named: exo-helper--1 --launch TerminalEmulator

I start the terminal emulator by right clicking on the desktop and there's an option to "Open terminal here"

Maybe gives us an idea of what is customized about it.

It might also help to know if the OP is using Xubuntu because Exo is a support library for the Xfce desktop.
