The mouse driver does not move the mouse marker on the screen and the system does not respond to mouse clicks. If the boot is backed up to version 3.2.0-61 then all is well. The upgrade to 3.2.0-67 occured on July 31 and shows up in the ubuntu software installation history.

You might try upgrading to 14.04. You don't have to do a complete reinstall to do that. The procedure to upgrade to a new release is a little different from upgrading within a release but it is still pretty easy. There is both a gui tool to do it and a command line approach. I don't do it often enough to have it committed to memory, but if you want to try that, you can find the instructions pretty easily with a search engine. I believe they are somewhere on this same site.
