View Full Version : [SOLVED] Black Screen When Booting From LiveCd

I'm trying to boot ubuntu 14.04.1 from a dvd. When I insert the dvd, go to the installation screen and click "Try ubuntu", I get a black screen and nothing happens (the display is on, just nothing on it).
When I go nomodeset I get an error message on the ubuntu loading screen (can't read it because it is on a strange place of the screen), and then I get a glitched screen (noise screen), and finally - black screen..
I'm using an Acer Aspire V3-571G: hybrid graphics (intel and nvidia 630m) and intel i5 processor.
Help, Please! :)

Are you booting with Intel or nVidia in use. Can you control that in UEFI/BIOS?

If the Intel chip you may need to use the other boot options to set size to match screen.
At grub menu you can use e for edit, scroll to linux line and replace quiet splash with nomodeset.

Shows install with screen shots for both BIOS(purple) & UEFI(grub menu), so you know which you are using.

I don't know if intel or nvidia is in use.
I am new and don't understand the advanced stuff. I have tried the nomodeset option and some of the UEFI options and it does not work...
I am thinking of trying another distribution, maybe mint.
By the way i've got windows 7 installed on the aspire and works perfectly.

I found a solution! :) Instead of booting from a live dvd I booted from a live USB (in NOMODESET) and for some magical reason it worked!!! :) :) :)
