View Full Version : Black screen after updates

My laptop for some reason, a 2011 MacBook Pro early 15" (stock hardware minus 8gb ram upgrade and larger hard drive), after every ubuntu kernel update there is, will always reboot to an all black screen. Alt Control F1 can't pull up a console at all, totally frozen.

BUT! A simple reboot always fixes this, and then proceeds to work just fine thereafter until another kernel update happens, then this happens all over again.

I should note that upon the first "reboot" after a black screen freeze, Grub will NOT have a timeout timer, it sits there waiting for me to select an option which is weird, then all of the next reboots have the timer again.

Ideas?

When black screened there's no blinking cursor at all at the top left corner, which usually is visible on regular boots until the radeon driver kicks in, of which i immediately see the WLAN driver messages, and then immediately the ubuntu logo.

(Ubuntu 14.04)
