View Full Version : [SOLVED] Removing Default Desktop Icons in Xubuntu 14.04

I set up a panel on the left for the icons I want available on the desktop. I tried deleting the default icons (Home, File System, OS, and Trash), moving them into the trash icons, modifying the files in ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/, and nothing works for removing the icons. I also installed gconf-editor and dconf-editor, in which I could not find a way to delete/disable the icons. I removed both from my system.

Does anyone know where Canonical puts the file that generates the files in ~/.config/*, so I can edit it? I haven't been able to find it.

TIA for the help.

Right click on the Desktop, and select Desktop Settings.
Open the Icons Tab, and uncheck all items in the "Default Icons" window:
Home, Filesystem, Trash, Removable Devices.

Thanks - that was easy. I tried to get into this from the settings manager, but apparently wasn't smart enough to scroll all the way down. I'll mark this as solved. BTW, I've only been using Xubuntu for the last four years...
