upgrade failed

I tried to upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04. When all the activity was completed, the computer rebooted to a screen that asked for my password (giving my correct full name), as a samba guest or as a guest. My password (which I know was correct) was not recognized, and nothing worked.

I could use some help.

I encountered a bug while performing upgrade testing but it appears to only effect those starting with Precise + Trusty HWE:
