View Full Version : 13.10 to 14.04 upgrade failure (failed to fetch)

I have tried repeatedly to upgrade to 14.04 - I have never seen these type of failures before upgrading since 12.x.
I had been using "servers for the US" under the Software Updater Settings with similar errors.
I changed to xmission.com servers after reading forum suggestions.

Any ideas what the problem is?

That IP address belongs to xmission.com so I would suggest trying an alternate US mirror, then
sudo apt-get update

then see if installation continues.
You dont say how you're conecting, wireless, ethernet etc so a quick

ping -c4 google.com

will confirm your connectivity is ok before changing mirror.

To note, I can access these files. Maybe a downtime from their side ? Have you tried with the main servers ?

That is quite strange. If you click one of the links above from your post #4, do you get a box asking to install it with gedebi ?

If you do, that means a browser and your system can access the file but not apt-get. So we need to have a look at how apt-get connects to the repos. Are you behind a proxy ?

I am not behind a proxy. I included snapshots of my software sources settings in post #4.

When I click on one of the links in post #4 above, Chromium browser downloads the files to my Downloads folder after quite a delay... maybe this is a timeout issue...

but you did give me a clue, I need to try turning off all my Fortinet firewall router Unified Threat Management features to see if the router is blocking access... or at least check the logs....

Yesterday I installed 12.04.4 to test the upgrade to the Hardware Enablement Stack. Which went through without any problems in contrast to what some have found. Now, I want to test the upgrade path to 14.04 but Update Manager is not offering an upgrade to 14.04. Although the settings are correct. I think this is because 14.04.1 is about to be released (in a day or two). I know that the developers have recommended that we do not upgrade to 14.04 until 14.04.1 is released. This could be the reason for these problems.

Regards.

@grahammechanical : I'm not sure how HWE stack upgrade is relevant here. Anyway, LST to LST upgrade will be offered afer 14.04.1 is released indeed. Side note, the 14.04.1 image is available to test the upgrade from Precise http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/318/builds
