Some of this stuff is probably basic and can be answered by anybody. So please answer if you can.

I've been using Elementary for a few months and like it. Unfortunately it is a trailing edge OS instead of a leading edge OS. I really don't want a leading edge OS but I do want newer versions of LibreOffice and some other programs. I don't like the file manager in Elementary. Elementary also freezes on me quite a bit. Having a slightly faster OS would also be good. LXLE comes with many things I already need which is why I want to switch to it. The desktop layout reminds me a bit of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS which I really liked.

What information will I need to collect to input into the new OS when setting up? How do I gather my e-mail connection data? Sure I know my addresses and passwords. What I always forget is the connection data that needs to be filled into the e-mail program. How do I locate that stuff again? I've been using Thunderbird for mail but might give the one in LXLE a try. I find Thunderbird doesn't have some features I want. My e-mail providers are hotmail/live/MSN, Yahoo Mail, and Gmail.

I don't know if LXLE comes with the restricted extras package. I tried the live version and not everything worked. Since LXLE is an Ubuntu variant will the Ubuntu restricted extras package work there too?

During my live trial I tried to watch a DVD in my CD/DVD drive. It couldn't play the content. I loaded VLC into the live version and still couldn't play it. How do I fix that problem? There must be somewhere to go to get certain drivers that allow VLC and the native video player in LXLE to use DVDs and CDs.

In the live trial the WiFi did work so that is a relief.

Most of my files have been moved to an external hard drive. Only a few folders need to be moved into it now. Once I know how to collect all of the data for setting up e-mail, getting the video players to work, and getting the CD/DVD player to work, I'll make the switch.

Thank you.
