Unity window side navigation bar missing

Hello ubuntu users.
I messed around with a few setting a few days ago getting 3ds max 9 to work in ubuntu which ment chaning a lot of hotkeys around with software like dconf and compiz and messed up parts of unity in the process.
Hopefull I won't be so careless in the future but I have one this little problem remaining that I cant fix of find a solution too on google:

What are you showing us? The file manager? And you want to see the left side pane of the file manager? That is not a Unity problem. Just press F9 or go to the file manager's View menu and select Show side bar.

If the Unity Launcher is missing, then that is a different problem to the one in the image.
