Updates pop up, I elect to install, process occurs, but three are left under proposed updates (see below). I can't select them to install except to select the header "Proposed Updates", can't select "Install", and they won't go away.

Complete Kernel
Kernel Headers
Kernel Image

Now what do I do?

Propossed updates repository enabled is not a good idea for inexperienced users as they can break the system, they are recommended only for testing purposes, please see: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuUpdates

I would not enable the propossed updates repository.

I understand and agree. I have disabled pre-released proposed precise updates.

Now what about unsupported precise backports?

Now what about unsupported precise backports? This seems to me to be reasonable to continue.

I would not enable backport repositories neither, it also can be a security risk and also cause to break your system. I am in the conservative part.
