So I have read may of the existing threads regarding upgrading R to 3.0 or higher but I still do not understand what I need to do to perform the upgrade. I get to this page: http://watson.nci.nih.gov/cran_mirror/ and I tried and select: r-base_3.0.0-2quantal_all.deb (http://watson.nci.nih.gov/cran_mirror/bin/linux/ubuntu/quantal/r-base_3.0.0-2quantal_all.deb) but when i try and install I get the error "Dependency is not satisfiable: r-base-core". Can anyone provide some guidance on how to upgrade to the latest version of R to a linux noob?

However 12.10 has now lost support so you ought to update your OS to a supported version, which means either 12.04 or 14.04 now, unless you are prepared to risk the potential for security breaches in an unsupported OS.
