My monitor should be working with a 1920X1080 resolution, but since ubuntu crashed while playing Europa Universalis IV, the only way that I can display the whole screen (menu bar with power button and the side bar with application) is by setting my resolution as 1680X1050.

The off screen are still active so I can click on the none appearing power button by going off screen with my cursor while I am in 1920X1080.

I've tried to swich to the updated Nvidia Driver, no change.
I've tried to set grub loader at 1920X1080 by default, no change.
I've tried to set Nvida setting different ways, still no change.
Plus the "auto ajust" option on my monitor isn't working, (in fact I can select it in the menu as it is innactive)

Thanks for the help

You might be able to cheat by leaving the resolution at 1920x1080 and using Ctrl-Alt-(and the minus key on the number pad). Touch the key once lightly, again until it works. I had to do that once on a new monitor install just to get to the login!

This is a shortcut to lower resolution. Good shortcut didn't know about it... but my monitor should work on 16-9 and not on 16-10.. so again, back to the start

FYI -- I was having this problem on a Hannspree LCD monitor and I fixed it by changing the settings on my monitor from "Video" to "PC."
