hi i cannot boot into ubuntu anymore after upgrading to version 14.4 lts. i updated software in safe mode and rebooted but when i clicked on firefox browser the screen just froze.my system is Memory 1.7GiB - Processor AMD Athlon (tm) 11 x 2 250 Processor x 2
Graphics VESA : MCP61 - mcp61 - 86
OS type 32 bit
Disk 27.4 GB
i did check the disk and it said Disk is ok but 5 bad sectors

ID Type
1 read error rate Pre Fail
3 spin up time Pre Fail
5 Reallocated sector count 5 sectors
7 seek error rate Pre Fail
10 spinup retry count Pre Fail

i would appreciate advice. i am new to ubuntu and linux and would like to learn more about it. my drive is partitioned with windows taking the bulk and i would eventually like to get away from windows.
thanks

I would back up any sensitive data now if you haven't already done so, and plan on getting a replacement hard disk very soon.

Five bad sectors is not serious. Many hard disks have a few bad sectors without causing trouble.

Sounds more like the classical problem with an upgrade going haywire. Before investing in hardware, have you considered a fresh install?
