Black Screen with blinking underscore

Hello,

I've just decided to try Ubuntu so I downloaded it formated my laptop and tried installing. Everything ran OK, it asked me to reboot which I did, but I can't log on to the system anymore. I just get a black screen with a flashing white cursor. I let it sit there doing nothing for over 2 hours to no avail. I've installed Ubuntu 14.04.

If you press Ctrl+Alt+F1, or Ctrl+Alt+F2 are you able to get a text prompt and able to login?

Oh sorry, I wasn't able to get time to get back here. But Thanks a lot papibe, I wasn't able to do that, it didn't do anything. But I've managed to solve it going through a live CD and reparing the boot. After that, it's smooth sailing so far! thanks a lot and this thread can be closed now.
