As the title says, can 12.04 Alternate be upgraded to 14.04 LTS desktop even if its a dual-boot setup on a Intel BIOS FakeRAID motherboard (ICH10R)?

I am thinking about installing 12.04 (along side Windows 8.1) since it has support for FakeRAID, dual booting Ubuntu and Windows, and then just simply upgrading to 14.04 Desktop using one of the many guides posted here. I'm just not sure if 14.04 LTS will keep the 12.04 Alternate FakeRAID setup intact without additional steps?

Thanks for your opinions or shared experiences.

Ok, well never mind me, I answered my own question already. Apparently 12.04 alternate is also not willing to install to a pre-partitioned 62gb ext4 formatted raid array. It appears it simply has to do the partitioning itself and be damned with perfectly capable partitions already setup for it.

I wonder if I can install to a simple single 30gb disk, then image it and then force that image onto a pre-formatted ext4 partition?
