View Full Version : neither Login nor Menu is visible

Hello Guys,

Here comes strange problem, i first live booted Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 with 16gb pendrive and after done the isntallation at both the times problem was same, also installed updates but still doesn't work :

1) The login screen only shows the gray background although it is not visible it works if i enter password
2) The menu is not visible it just shows the shadow, it works if i go extremely left-top and type something like FIles or Firefox and then press enter it opens it but nothing is shown

Now this is the screenshot i didn't modifed anything it is as it is taken by the screenshot utility, so experts please help.. what to do?
Here is my Config
C2D 4GB DDR3 and LG's 22 inch Screen(model 22M35)
may be this is issues with the monitor, i don't have another monitor to check

I had also tried with recovery mode and it worked with bad resolution

I don't see anything obvious there :confused:

Have you ever used GNOME Shell before? Maybe check out this intro:

Or if you logout you can select GNOME Classic at login. Here's a link to a photo of Trusty's gdm:

If you haven't used GNOME in some time there's a bit of a learning curve, OTOH sorry if I misunderstood the problem :redface:

I am not beginner, i had Debian installed which has gnome and i liked it but for some reasons i want to install the latest of ubuntu with gnome spin and this is where i ended, It works in failsafe graphics mode and it is what i am currently using,the problem is that neither login screen nor top bar and contents of activities menu is visible
