The CD player is new, I've tried with 4 disks and 2 USB attempts. Even wubi doesn't work. Every installation is the same. I get the purple screen, without the menu. It stays there for about 20 seconds then disappears and a bunch of text, presumably error message of sorts. It's too much stuff to type. Some of the things it says are "too many perfs" or something like that and something about NMI installer too many something;

ive been trying on and off for about a year to get this installed.

I have 8GB RAM, 64-bit. (Yes i used the correct version of Ubuntu). AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core Processor 2.20 GHz. Anything else you need to know

Do you have another OS on that machine? If it is Windows 8 then do not use Wubi because it is not compatible with Windows 8. You could try this

1) at the first purple screen press Enter
2) at the next screen select the language (English is default) and press Enter
3) at the next screen with its options to Try Ubuntu and Install Ubuntu press F6
4) look for a menu at the bootom right of the screen and select nomodeset and press Enter
5) press ESC to get back to the Try - Install screen and make sure that Try is highlighted and press Enter.

Regards.
