Hi all!

I just reinstalled Ubuntu Raring Ringtail and downloaded/installed (I think) KDE. I used Synaptic (the software center is just weird). After choosing the KDE package in Synaptic, I logged out to the sign-in screen. I expected to find an option to choose the desktop to boot up in, but no options present (apparently).

This is a dual-boot machine with Win 8.1 and Ubuntu on an HP All-In-One box. Had this running a few months ago with XFCE. Had a major crash and lost the drive.

Everything is working fine, except the problem as stated above.

I know the answer is a simple one, but my linux is very rusty... Thanks in advance! All help is appreciated...

Kevin

I doubt you'll be able to do much with Raring since it's already reached EOL:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Even Saucy has only one month of life left so it would probably be best to just install Kubuntu Trusty (http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kubuntu-14.04) if you want KDE :)

But don't trust the automated install options due to this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1265192

I did an upgrade via live DVD from Precise to Trusty on a dual boot with XP and the installer gobbled up XP :(

Thanks, kansasnoob! I'll give it a shot as you suggest!
