Thought this was going to be easy. How do I get it to install?
Thanks!

Did the USB boot? What symptoms are presented?

chuck18; Yuk ....

Theoretically, well it is possible, but not practical in the extreme.
The repository for release 10.04 has been turned down (desktop) and moved. One has to jump through some hoops to gain access to the "old-releases" repository, then so much has changed in the operating system since release 10.04 there is little likely hood that you will emerge with 14.04 fully functional. Lots of bandwidth, lots of time ->for a probable failure.

What is the recommended/suggested course of action is to clean install release 14.04:
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop
verify the .iso:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM
Burn S L O W L Y as an image:

DVDIntegrityCheck:

just my bit to

try and help

All the files show: I can't find the one to install.

I realize this is an easy/common ques. If you could point me to the solution, would save you time.

Quick answer - boot from the USB containing ISO file

I wish: boot possibles do not include the USB drive.

Tried to burn a CD: file too large.

This IS frustrating, but I'm working from a Win7 machine at the moment, and I'll do ANYthing to avoid having to deal with Win one moment longer than absolutely necessary!
So Thanks!!

chuck18; Yeah,

The image no longer fits on a CD, to burn to disk requires a DVD now.

Doing what we can to get you 14.04 installed.

boot possibles do not include the USB drive.

But your thread title says "from a USB." It is a long time since Ubuntu was small enough to fit on a CD. If your machine is that old that it only has a CD drive then your machine might be incapable of running Ubuntu 12.04 or 14.04 anyway. You may have better success with the minimal CD version

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD

You really should give us more details about what you are trying to do and the specification of the hardware. Trying to help you is frustrating because you are holding back on giving us the information we need to help.

Holding back? No. Lazy? Yes. So lazy, in fact, that this morning, I decided it would be easier to load the new Ubuntu that I already had on my machine than it would be to replace the HD with one with 12.04 already installed. (This is an easy install, right?) I'm calling that a bad decision.

But if you're going to be a bear, be a grizzly: I'm going for 14.04 now and hope it outlasts my eyesight!

I'd tell you what I've got, but by now it's a real mongrel. Started life as a HP Pavilion a450n with quad 3gHzs, but I've dropped more RAM and a bigger HD (250G, I think) into it.

Sounds like all I need to do is get a blank DVDR.

Thank all of you!

Incomplete answer: The boot sequence order and choices do not include the USB, of which this machine has 4.

Got a dvdr, burned at 3x. Computer doesn't recognize DVD as boot choice. [disabled].(!!!-what next???) Can't figure out how to enable-not a Ububtu issue so I'll sign off. Just wanted you guys that helped me to know what happened. Really frustrated with this whole mess.

Thanks for tryin'!

Doesn't matter: computer has the DVDR disabled for boot. If I manage to overcome that, will make sure it's image.
Thanks!
