How to recover Ubuntu 12.04 after Ubuntu 14.04 upgrade attempt

I just tried to upgrade my system from Ubuntu 12.04 to Ubuntu 14.04. During the upgrade there were some fontconfig errors (Terminal), and something like libGL errors in the upgrade window. These froze my computer, and now I can't seem to get onto the computer at all. I am currently running off of an Ubuntu 12.04 USB bootable drive. I tried several different recovery options, but nothing has seemed to work so far. Thanks for any help you guys might be able to give me.

There is no recovery unless you have cloned your 12.04. So either do a fresh install of 14.04 or a fresh re-install of 12.04. BTW "upgrade" is often problematic, do fresh installs instead in the future.
