Downloaded Ubuntu 12.04 but lost access to windows (still in a partition) no worries as content with 12.04 which I tweaked to a very nice state. Noticed and decided to upload to 12.10..disastrous decision really as I lost 12.04 and 12.10 went to black screen. unistalled then reinstalled GRUB with Boot repair and also created a 200mib partition as recommended but boot repair will not allow me to put GRUB into a separate/ boot partition. Here is my last hashbin http://paste.ubuntu.com/7608547. As you will see I have another 12.04 uploaded onto the system which has been quite fortunate as I can work on trying to solve the problems I am having.Apart from a brief romance with 12.04 I am falling out of love with the amount of time devoted to bugs on the system. Any help to access is more than welcome. Thanks Michael

Not the solution but: Why not download 14.04 and do the fresh install?

12.10 has reached end of life back in April. No point in trying to fix your problem for an unsupported OS. Do a fresh install of 14.04 (No "upgrade" please)

Hi.
That's sounds sensible. How could I remove all versions of ubuntu 1st and then then install 14.04 I assume I would need to download and burn a version of 14.04 to disc. Backup my files, uninstall previous versions of Ubuntu, install 14.04 and upload the backup files. Would that be right. Would allocating partition be a problem. I am a newbie so please bear with me.

Thanks in advance for any help. Very nice community on these boards.

Hi I have managed to regain access to windows 7 and will take up your suggestion of uploading a new install of 14.04.
Thank you
