Problem with installing ubuntu 14.04

Hello, I've been trying to install the new version of ubuntu on my Acer laptop and every single time I try to install it the screen just seems to turn off. Everything else is working, because I hooked it up with a external monitor and it was working perfectly, except for the built-in monitor. Do you have any idea how to fix this problem?

Try the nomodeset option when booting the live CD. I think you get that by hitting <F6> and then selecting it from a list. I've done this but it's been a while. You could get a more definitive answer by searching "ubuntu nomodeset boot".

Also you'll want more hardware info.
