View Full Version : Connection refused - ftp server port 20, 21 closed

I have tried numerous things to get my ftp server working. I seems the port 20,21 is closed. My output of iptables -L shows:
$sudo iptables -L -n
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
ACCEPT tcp -- 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 tcp dpt:21
Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

It seems right for me, but it isn't. Something is blocking the ports. Can anybody give me a hint?

Can you see those ports if you do:
netstat -tlpn

No I cannot see them. I see http port, ssh port etc, but not port 20,21

My guess is that the service is not running.
Can you see it on process list?
ps -aux | grep -i ftp

I'm attempting to ftp to another computer within my home. From MINT 11 >> vsftpd will ftp to UBUNTU 14.04. However, UBUNTU 14.04 >> vsftp does not ftp to MINT 11.
I run the following four codes on UBUNTU. I need help deciphering the results, and would appreciate all input.
