Error BrokenCount > 0

Hi,

first post!

I have encountered a weirdness with the package system that I can't seem to find the root cause of.

I am getting an error message stating 'BrokenCount >0', the software centre refuses to install anything saying that I have a 'Broken Cache'.

The strange bit is that nothing show as being broken either through apt or synaptic. They both update and and install packages without any complaints. I'm guessing that there is just a flag somewhere that needs to be reset to allow the Ubuntu software to run properly. But I can't find it anywhere.

Any help would be appreciated, it's more annoying than anything else.

Can you please post back the output you get when running these commands at a terminal window (one at a time please)

Apparently there are no problems with the package manager.

I'm assuming that you get that error message when you open the Software Center, and that the error message shows up in a dialog box. If that's correct does it provides any button labeled 'Repair'? If yes, have you tried to click it?

I tried the repair option but it just repeats itself. I also get the warning icon on the top bar. That tells me that the Broken Count > 0. But there is obviously nothing wrong with the package system itself, that's why I thought it might just be a flag somewhere that's got stuck. I had a few mishaps installing Apache with PHP-FPM the other day and I wonder if that has left some residual error flag somewhere.

I can't be sure of what might be the culprit. It could perfectly also be third party repositories. You could try to disable them, since they are a common source of problems, and check if the issue persists.

Also, you could have a read at this thread (http://askubuntu.com/questions/223143/broken-package-after-update-linux-headers-error-brokencount-0), and see if any of the suggested workarounds can be useful for your case.
