Some old Samsungs had major issues.

The problem also appears to affect Ubuntu 12.10 and other Samsung models. The Ubuntu bug report includes posts from users reporting that the problem also affects 300E5C, NP700Z5C, NP700Z7C and NP900X4C series laptops.

But newer ones have dual booted.

Does this machine come with pre-installed Windows? What version?
What CPU, RAM and especially Graphics Card?

Download and 'burn' the latest Ubuntu onto a USB/DVD and "Try Ubuntu" from Live USB/DVD. If it runs well then you can go ahead and install it.
If you run into problems post the details here and also consult links posted by oldfred.
