Hi! I'm considering a new computer. I like to play Skyrim and Fallout. Would like a computer that would run those well. Would like it to dual-boot windows and ubuntu. I've been away from computers for a few years. So I need a few recommendations to one side and the other.
This computer would be in the living room so it would need to be silent.

I can assemble the desktop myself, but I don't know if it would cost more than a laptop... or last as much.
Budget is 1000€.

Please recommend. Thank you very much in advance.

if you want to max out the quality on a hi-res screen i would say desktop, if you don't mind low-med setting on a small screen a laptop is fine.
as for the desktop go custom;

i5-3570k (i5-4670 if you are not going to overclock)
Nvidix GTX 760/760 TI/770 (varies depending on the budget)
8GB DDR3 1600 CL9 (unless better is cheaper)
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 (MSI H87-G43 if you are not overclocking)
NH-D14 or Hyper 212 plus/evo (if you are overclocking and make sure your case is wide enough)

not sure what PSU choices are in your area, but here is a calculator http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
here is a psu quality list http://community.newegg.com/eggxpert/computer_hardware/f/135081/t/45344.aspx
you should be able to pick your own storage device(s)

Build a desktop. AMD's Phenom II and FX series processors are a great choice, and when it comes to video card solutions I'd say an Nvidia GPU with 4GB graphics memory would work wonderfully. I also recommend getting 8GB of DDR3 RAM.

If it is going to sit in living room, desktop is always better for gaming and entertainment purpose.
