Docky Xubuntu grey box at left side of dock

Hi all,

I've got docky installed and working fine on my Xubuntu 14.04 instance except for a grey box which appears on the left side of the Docky dock. This grey box is outside of the dock itself so cannot be hovered (as the dock autohides when you are outside its boundaries).Also the grey box does not appear when docky is set to panel mode. I've included a screenshot.

My GFX card is an ATI Radeon R9 270X running the latest ati-nonfree drivers. Any help would be much appreciated!

I know when using xfce composting is enabled in window manager tweaks and might be worth checking . I haven't used Docky or Xubuntu and don't know for sure if composting needs to be enabled for the dock to be displayed properly.
