View Full Version : Installed kubuntu on ubuntu 14.04, and kubuntu works, but ubuntu does not

Will add more information by request; not sure what's relevant and I'm a little new to this.

I installed ubuntu 14.04 (fresh install a few days ago), then decided to try kubuntu. I ran "sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop" and after a while it finished, I rebooted, and now I can run kubuntu.

However, I decided I liked Unity better, so I wanted to boot back into it. The login screen has a dropdown that says I can, but when I click "Ubuntu" and input my password, it just shows the kubuntu wallpaper indefinitely and never does anything. I have to manually power off the machine (though it's probable that I could open a terminal if I knew the command).

Is there a fix? While I'd prefer to keep both of them installed, I'd be satisfied with uninstalling kubuntu, if that would fix ubuntu. Unfortunately, I don't think it would, and it would leave me with no working computer.

Any help?
