I'm running dual boot Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Windows 7 on a Dell and I'd like to resize my partition but I'm having trouble getting either a live DVD or USB to boot. I get to the BIOS page and have the option to boot from USB or the USB DVD drive. When I select either, it says the media is not available.

How did you create the media? For example, you can't just copy/burn the files to it - you must use one of the tools. To make an Ubuntu USB install/boot media use unetbootin. To make an Ubuntu install/boot media you must burn the ISO image to the disk as an image - you can't just burn the ISO to disk.
