I have three mythboxes (not mythbuntu, but a custom ubuntu server based installation) and all three suffer from the same video problems after my upgrade to 14.04:

Choppy Video
Horizontal lines during scrolling or quick scenes
Overall feeling of slowness

I downgraded my main box to 13.10, which fixed the issue. The installation steps were the same on all boxes (install server + openssh, install xbmc, add the xbmc ppc and do an upgrade of the system). All three boxes have different hardware.
Main box: intel graphics
Bedroom box: Nvidia
VMware: well vmware client installed and running

I really would like to find a solution on 14.04. Although installation on the main box can be done rather quickly, due to the SSD, the other hardware is not so quick and will take dramatically longer. I also really would like to understand the problem, I remember reading somewhere it is kernel related, but have not been able to find that post again.
