kubuntu 14.04 launchers go missing

My launchers seem to go away pretty often. That is, I will have installed something, say Shutter, or LibreOffice a month ago. When I boot my computer the taskbar start button launchers might or might not be there. The desktop launch icons might look like blank documents. When I go into the ubuntu software center (muon has disappeared from the desktop), I have to uninstall then reinstall to get my icons back.

What can I do?

Are these icons you have explicitly added to the panel?

No, I don't know how to do that (but would like to). They appear when programs are installed. They stay through R (andom) reboots (daily shutdowns) then disappear. The desktop icons, I put there.
